So you’ve heard about Vampire Facials… did you know that we here at Skin Co specialise in the real deal? It’s called Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP - and we use your very own blood!
Have we piqued your interest...?
"Vampire Facials" have come to attention recently thanks to the global following of a notorious reality starlet who will remain nameless here. But in secret we do give her thanks for shedding light (or should we say blood…?) on a somewhat weird and wonderful treatment that can truly transform your skin using your very own growth rich platelets.
We love it because it uses what your body already understands and uses to heal and regenerate. We just help it out by concentrating and focusing on where you need it! No biting required...
The above result was achieved after just two PRP treatments on scars created by oil burns.
How does it work?
By injecting a high concentration of plasma and platelets sourced from a small collection of your own blood, the process of tissue regeneration is dramatically accelerated with incredible results for many different skin conditions. For glowing skin that is smooth and luminous - safely - a Skin Co ‘vampire facial’ could be the answer you’ve been waiting for.
Your platelets contain numerous growth factors - more than the blood itself. When they are reintroduced into your skin, collagen synthesis and skin rejuvenation results.
Despite vampire facials possibly showing up on your Instagram feed,
this is not some new untested system. For over 20 years PRP has been used in repairing tendon and ligament damage in top level athletes like Tiger Woods.
The best results come from treatments that work with your body’s natural resources and PRP is a perfect example.
No artificial products, just your body’s own chemistry and cells at work for you.
What is a "Vampire Facial"?
Medically known as Platelet Rich Plasma Skin Rejuvenation (PRP), a “vampire facial” as they have come to be known as, involves a safe, simple, non-surgical procedure which uses your very own cells to rejuvenate your skin.
Platelets derived from your own blood are centrifuged for 5-10 minutes in specially designed tubes with a patented gel to isolate the PRP from other unneeded cells. Using your own blood, and in the safe hands of our resident Registered Nurse, the risk of immunological reactions or contamination is eliminated.
Once formulated, injection by dermal stamping pen (think absolutely teensy needles, nothing scary!) into areas of concern in your skin - typically the face but also neck and décolletage - can help to regenerate tired, dry and damaged skin, scars, burns, acne, pitting, uneven pigmentation, signs of ageing, improve overall texture and tone, remodel collagen fibres, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and promote faster healing to aesthetic treatments such as IPL.
Can you see why it’s referred to as a vampire facial now?
The results seem something of fantasy and fiction but it is truly real life! We are privileged to see it on a daily basis and love the delight it brings to those who have struggled with issues they never thought they could undo.
Like all of our procedures at Skin Co, this is not just a vanity project. Beauty is much more than skin deep. We know and see the liberation and freedom our clients feel when they are set free from skin issues which have held back their confidence and right to put themselves out there in life.
I'm not sure if this is right for me...
At Skin Co we have seen it all. We know what works and the kind of results you can expect. We are passionate about giving you the right advice on all our treatments so that you can have confidence in your investment. We have an exceptional reputation in the business because we aren’t here to sell you what won’t work for you. It’s simply best practice.
So come in, have a consultation - we can talk it all over with no pressure. Just our expertise to answer all your questions so you can make an informed decision.
I recently had PRP with Jodhi who was fantastic and explained the procedure very thoroughly and professionally. I felt totally at ease. I felt absolutely no pain during the process and the aftercare process worked beautifully - the next day you wouldn't even know I had anything done. I have now had three treatments now over a period of six months and can notice my skin is plumper and smoother. Highly recommend Kelly and Jodhi to give you the best advice.
What kind of skin concerns can PRP treat?
- Tired, dry and damaged skin
- Skin laxity
- Any area of the body where crépe skin is present
- Acne scarring & pitting (active acne cannot be treated with PRP)
- Uneven pigmentation
- Signs of ageing
- Neck, backs of hands, around eyes, cheeks, jawline and décolletage or chest area concerns
- Improvement of overall texture and tone
- Remodelling of collagen fibres
- Reduced pore size
- ‘Bouncier’ skin
- Smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles
- Promote faster healing to aesthetic treatments such as IPL
- The treatment is suitable for all skin tones
In short, your skin becomes thicker, plumper, firmer, softer, clearer and gives you back your glow!
It can also be a great alternative to people who may experience allergic reactions from other treatments, and those who are looking for a natural solution, as it uses no artificial products or additives.
Unlike the instant results we can achieve with IPL, the improvement from a vampire facial, vampire breast lift (as we affectionately call them) or PRP is gradual and the results develop over time. One treatment will give you those results but the best outcome will be achieved with a course of 3-4 treatments.
We know you have questions! Here are some answers…
Seems like there’s a lot of blood - will I get scabbing from this treatment?
No you won’t. This treatment is one your skin will recover from very quickly. The Dermastamp we use to inject is made of extremely fine needles which do not damage the skin. They simply perforate the capillaries which sit in deeper layers of the skin. You may experience some skin redness which can last around 12-24 hours. As the skin heals itself you will see that redness decrease. Bruising may occur and we recommend stopping any blood thinning medication (aspirin, anti-inflammatories like Voltaren or Nurofen), fish oil or green tea up to 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
So it’s called a vampire facial - I’m scared! Does it hurt?
Like most beauty treatments there may be some discomfort. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different but we can say the needle is very small, the procedure is relatively quick, and the use of a topical anaesthetic can drastically reduce any potential pain to be felt. At Skin Co we pride ourselves on bedside manner and are here to talk you through it every step of the way (it’s our zone of genius!) So you can feel confident in the process.
“In terms of the pain scale, I’d say it averages to a 3/10… With two layers of anaesthetic thoroughly massaged in, I didn’t feel more than a prickle for the majority of my face, even in areas that I was warned would be particularly painful such as around the nose and upper lip – I didn’t feel a thing.”
"I recently had PRP with Jodhi who was fantastic and explained the procedure very thoroughly and professionally. I felt totally at ease. She numbed my face with an aesthetic cream, and once I was totally numb she began the procedure. I felt absolutely no pain during the process. The day of the treatment my face was quite red and blotchy but I kept putting the soothing gel on, and the next day you wouldn't even know I had anything done. The redness had totally gone."
How many vampire facial treatments will I need?
Effective with one treatment, PRP naturally works with your body to create thicker, fuller skin and improves skin texture. For improving fine crépey skin around the eyes, in the neck and chest, and in the hands it is one of the best treatments available. For the ultimate results a series of 3-4 treatments over a 4-6 month period will do absolute wonders. We can set you up with options to spread your payments - whether you want one treatment or more.
Is it safe?
Yes. Because we are using your own blood - your body’s own chemistry and cells - with no artificial products or additives, the risk of immunological reactions or contamination with transmissible diseases is eliminated. Your body is able to accept your platelets and plasma back (once they’ve been separated from the red blood cells) and begin to regenerate your skin from the inside out - naturally! You are in the hands of a highly trained, specialist Registered Nurse (read more about Jodhi here) who has years of experience working with some of the top specialists in the industry. And, we talk you through each step as we go giving you total peace of mind.
The vampire breast lift
This amazing ‘vampire’ technology (i.e. your own body’s natural means of regenerating itself) can also be applied to enhance the area of your bust most visible in bras and bikinis. PRP is used in conjunction with other fillers to reduce the ‘saggy’ appearance of crépey skin from lost elasticity and age. The shape and contour can be enhanced for a surgery-free lift. What do I need to do after my treatment?
Drinking plenty of fluids after your treatment is recommended. You will be advised to limit physical activity such as exercise for up to 48 hours. Anti-inflammatory medications should be avoided for at least 4 weeks. As should scrubbing of the area treated. Keep make up free for 1-2 days. Swelling can be treated with an ice pack or cold compress.
Skin can be dry in patches in the few days following the treatment. You receive a take home pack to help speed up the beautiful results that are coming.
How long do results last?
Treatment results vary for each patient, however most have results that last at least 18 months.
What is the process and how long does it take?
The first step is to call us, email us or make an appointment for a consultation to ensure this is the right treatment for you and your skin. We always take a full medical history before treating any one and you will fill out a consent form once you have full understanding of the process. The safety lies in utilising your own cells to encourage the regeneration.
At your appointment the entire treatment takes about two hours. The first part involves harvesting the platelets from a simple blood test. Next we allow the centrifugation to occur, which can take up to half an hour. When centrifugation is complete your platelets and plasma will be separated from your blood cells. The concentration of platelets remaining are 10 times that of normal blood. The proteins, growth factors, and other particles the platelets contain help the body’s self-healing process. These platelets are extracted and carefully injected into your skin using a small needle after application of a topical anaesthetic.
Over the next few weeks the growth factors encourage the skin to rejuvenate.
